About the MCF Skill Path

For matric, inter and university students who are curious about freelance and AI skills but don't know where to begin. Walk the path camp by camp. Tell us who you are and what you enjoy; we'll show you what fits, what each path gives you, and what you'd give up.

The Skill Path is a free career counselling tool from Momina Cheema Foundation's Professional Training Centre, the first NAVTTC-affiliated centre in Shigar, which offers free, nationally certified courses including AI For Everyone. It takes students from "I don't know where to start" to a clear first skill and a weekly plan that fits around their studies.

Common myths about freelancing and AI skills

I'll start earning in a month.

Most people need several months of learning and practice before steady paid work, and early income is small and irregular. Anyone promising fast money is selling something.

Freelancing means Fiverr.

Fiverr is one door. Skills also lead to remote jobs, local jobs in agencies and software houses, Upwork, LinkedIn, direct clients and your own business.

To succeed, I have to leave my studies.

Studies and a skill can grow together with a planned week. Leaving your degree closes doors (visas, many jobs, higher studies) that are hard to reopen.

AI will take all the jobs, so why learn?

AI is replacing simple, repetitive tasks. People who understand a skill and use AI well are doing more and better work. Skill plus AI is the safest place to stand.

If I learn AI tools, I don't need the basics.

Anyone can press "generate". You can only direct AI well in work you understand; without the skill, you can't tell good output from output that only looks right.

I need an expensive laptop to start.

Writing, social media, language work and AI basics can start on a phone. Design, video and coding need a computer later; a shared or institute computer is fine at first.

My English is weak, so this isn't for me.

Some skills (design, video, Urdu language work, local clients) need less English to begin. English improves with daily practice, and it widens every path.

An expensive course guarantees income.

Many good resources are free (DigiSkills.pk, Google, HubSpot, freeCodeCamp, MCF's own free courses). No course can guarantee income. Be careful with anyone who says it can.

I'm too young to start.

Most platforms require you to be 18, but learning has no age limit. Students who explore and practise now are ready, with a portfolio, when they turn 18.

Online work isn't safe or proper for girls.

Many women in Pakistan do skilled work from home with dignity. Safety comes from good habits: professional profiles, talking to clients on proper platforms, never sharing passwords or private details, and keeping family informed.

Without PayPal, I can't get paid from abroad.

PayPal isn't available for Pakistani accounts, but freelancers are paid through platform withdrawals, Payoneer and direct bank transfers to Pakistani banks. Options change, so check what's current when you're ready.

Questions parents ask

Is this real work?

Yes. Design, writing, marketing, development and teaching are the same skills companies use in their offices. Your child does them for real clients or employers, often from home.

Will studies suffer?

Not if it's planned. This tool asks students to pause in exam months and keep the degree first. A skill learned alongside studies often improves English, confidence and focus.

Is it safe, especially for daughters?

The work happens at home, on a screen. Safety comes from habits: professional profiles, talking to clients only on proper platforms, never sharing passwords or private details, and you staying involved. Sit with them while they explore.

Is the income honest?

Earning from skilled work is like any job's salary. Families can choose to turn down projects for products they don't approve of, and should avoid anything that involves fake reviews, buying or renting accounts, or "invest and earn" schemes.

How long before they earn?

Usually several months of learning first. In Pakistan a beginner in a full-time role (not an internship) commonly earns around Rs 35,000–50,000 a month; new freelancers can earn similar from 1–2 projects, but freelance income is irregular at first.

What do they need from us?

Time, a quiet corner, internet when possible, and your trust. Not pressure for quick money. Paid courses are not required to begin.

What are the warning signs of a scam?

Anyone asking your child to pay to get work, to "unlock" earnings, to invest money, to rent out their CNIC or bank account, or to buy a ready-made freelancing account. Real clients pay you, not the other way round.
